Writing Poetry

Writing

On Friday, we began some new writing with our school writing kits. We are using kits sponsored by Warehouse Stationary to "Get New Zealand Writing" The first kit is to teach children how to write poetry and when we have completed our poems we will exchange them with another school.

We started with the children writing a single line about a particular colour,  we scrutinised and grouped the sentences until we were happy with the construction of our poem.

We listened to the poem  In Other Words by Glenn Colquhoun, exploring the descriptive language and the rhythm, and watched videos other children had made to add graphics to the poem. Then the students rewrote their sentences and we reconstructed our poem to make it better, stronger, deeper
Finally, we voted on a name for our poem. Keep watching for the next instalment...
