Funtastic Climbing Frame

You have probably seen the new spider web climbing frame in the front area of the school. The students of Tawhirimatea had the opportunity to explore this funtastic new space this week!

From the top, the arrow towards the east can be easily seen with its koru accents. The children showed their amazing climbing skills in reaching the apex at the top.

Collaborative Raft Building

7/2/2019

On Monday we worked together to build rafts and test their floating ability. Each group had a Year4, Year 5 and Year 6 student. Students gather their own sticks, had 1m of string and a sail.
Their task was to work collaboratively to design a raft that stayed together and could float.
There was a variety of designs and sizes, with a variety of results!

Rainbow Art

This week we created a collective work of art. We took the theme of Tawhirimatea, the Atua of Wind and Weather, and created a rainbow artwork made up of our portraits.

We did not have long to draw and colour our portraits. We were allowed to use colour pencil and pastel with only one or two colours. If we wanted to add shade or outlines we needed to use different tones with the colour.

Here are some examples of our portraits.

First Day 2019

The students had a very relaxed but busy first day back at school. We started the day with a Mihi Whakatau to welcome our new families, then we had had our new Spider climbing frame opening. We then organised out totes tray, had a free swim, some children played Rob the Nest and finally had a 'Getting to know you" scavenger hunt.
